Mar. 7, Interview - To stay on the topic of Florida and Michigan and their displaced
delegates, we speak with election reform proponent, Steven
Hill. He's Director of the Political Reform Program at the New
American Foundation about the Democratic Parties debacle in Florida and Michigan.
"It's going to be pretty difficult for Barack Obama to say that we don't
want to count the votes in Florida and Michigan in the nomination process
then if he wins the nomination process come back to voters and ask for their
vote a month later."
Hill also blames Democratic Party Chair Howard
Dean for using
a complicated process.
"He has an extremely important role to play here. If
he doesn't get more engaged to come up with a solution before the convention,
he's abrogating his responsibilities as chair of the Democratic party. Remember
this whole mess was created by Howard Dean and the Democratic National Committee
because its their rules that all the different states are playing be and
its their rules that are broken…. A decentralized hodgepodge of states, all
of which want to be relevant in the nominating process.
Hill's main point is to "re-enfranchise
the voters of Florida and Michigan."
