Apr. 17, Interview - As the debate was for the battle for the Democratic nomination, we turn to
a response from the a Green Party Presidential Candidate, Cynthia
McKinney.
"I think the American people have already spoken in terms of their
position on the war, and more war, and funding for war. The American people
spoke in November of 2006, when they voted the Democratic majority into the
Congress.
They want an end to the war, and they want an end to the funding for the
war, because the United States quite frankly has very important goals that
will benefit the American people. The war is not one of them - 720 Million
dollars a day for war, is not a goal that benefits the American people. Single
payer Health Care System is, but neither of the Democratic candidates is
talking about single payer.
Repeal of the PATRIOT ACT and the Secret Evidence Act
are, very important issues, I think, in terms of the attack of our Civil
Liberties, and the attack on the Bill of Rights. That's not being discussed.
So basically
what is being done to us is that the political discourse is being framed
within a very narrow span of options. And voters think they have choice,
when they really don't have very much choice at all.
If someone of talking about the 53 Trillion dollars that the United States
owes, and how we are going to get our fiscal house in order. The 98 Billion
dollars in the sub-prime mortgage crisis has been lost by Latino families,
the 92 Billion that's been lost by Black families who have lost their homes
in foreclosure, then answers are not being given. Because the right questions
are not being asked.
"What are the public policy goals that the American people want today.
If its Single Payer Health Care - vote for the candidate who offers that.
If its an end to the funding of the war - vote for the candidate who offers
that."
