Mar. 24, Feature - Today we look at third party candidates running for President. Brian
Moore is running on the Socialist
Party of America's ticket. The Socialist Party maintains its stance against
for-profit corporations and for worker run companies.
The party's first battle is ballot access. In 2004 the party was on only 8
states ballots and the candidate received only 10,000 votes but this year's
candidate Brian Moore is committed to working toward increased ballot access
and exposure for the socialists.
"We achieved ballot access in one state... there are many obstacles.
One of which is a high number of registered voter signatures, that have to
be collected, by a minor party that has limited resources and limited revenues.
So, that we feel its very undemocratic and that we're discriminated against
by the power structure, and the government. And it makes it almost impossible
to get on the ballot, so that Americans can be given a third or fourth choice."
".. that Americans take a new look at Capitalism, and all its faults, and
that they do take a new look at Socialism, and try to eliminate the nasty
image that it has, and recognize the great heritage that its has offered
to this country, and the potential for constructive change for this country,
that can be achieved in the future."
"We would like to eliminate all 'for profit
corporations', and turn over ownership, and control of the corporations,
to the workers."
".. I am advocating worker take over, this is not 'controlled by the
government' - that would be communism. So the government might be a vehicle
that's used by the workers, but the government would not run, or control
the entity. And that would be true for National Health, or other entities
as well."
