Zunes, Professor
of Politics and International Studies at the University
of San Francisco says many of Senator
Hillary Clinton's advisers supported the Iraq war but have since become
skeptical of the invasion.
Many of Clinton's advisers hail from her husband's
administration. Madeline
Albright is President Clinton's former Secretary
of State. Sandy
Berger is former National Security Adviser to Clinton.
One
of her top foreign policy confidantes,
and her likely choice for Secretary
of State Zines says, is Richard
Holbrooke. Holbrooke served as UN Ambassador
in the Clinton Administration and Special Emissary to the Balkans. Halbrooke
advocated for the bombing of Bosnia. Holbrooke also served in the Carter administration
where he has been criticized for his advocacy
for Indonesian military head Suharto who repressed the people of East
Timor and his support for Ferdinand
Marcos' dictatorship in the Philippines.
Zunes says "Barack Obama's foreign
policy tend to be younger" as some of his
advisors make up different generation. Zones says Obama has a broad
range of opinions surrounding him such as human rights scholar Samantha
Power and
General
Merrill McPeak, who backed Indonesia's invasion of East Timor. McPeak
also advised George Bush and Bob Dole in their Presidential bids. Zunnes
says and Dennis Ross who has been a key player in President George H.W. Bush's
and President Bill Clinton's Israeli Palestinian polcies. Zunes describes
him as "a supporter
of Israel's policy in the West Bank."
