Apr. 16, Headlines - Presumptive Republican nominee Senator John McCain laid out his most detailed economic plans. At Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg, McCain focused on cutting taxes and spending as economic life support.

He took a jab at Democratic candidates Barack Obama, saying he and Hillary Clinton will raise taxes, by allowing many of President Bush's tax cuts to expire.

"All these tax increases are under the fine print of the slogan hope. They're gonna raise your taxes by thousands of dollars a year and they have the audacity of hope you don't mind."

John McCain That tax cuts, which focus on the middle class include doubling the exemptions for children and, more immediate, a summer tax holiday. He'd put the breaks on an18 cent federal gas tax.

As Catholic leader, Pope Benedict the 16th visits DC, Presidential candidates are weighing in. Hillary Clinton is praising the pope on his leadership in global warming. Obama says the Pope's visit offers comfort Americans are facing tough economic times and John McCain's spokesman Tucker Bounds noted the Pope's quote contributions to America's cultural values.
