August 20 - With much of the focus on conventions that begin next week, some are looking
beyond. Get out the vote efforts are underway, and voter turn out is a main
strategy of Barack Obama's path to victory. Unassociated with a candidate,
groups are also working to increase voter involvement. One campaign is called
Get out HER vote. Kathy Spillar, Executive Editor, Ms Magazine joins us to talk about it.
Women are voting at higher rates not only as older women but also among young
women voters.
"Young people in college campuses are very concerned about the war
in Iraq, very concerned about the ability to go to college and get a job
after they graduate, very concerned about women's
reproductive rights, and access to safe abortions, and the environment, a
major issue on college campuses."

As Ms Magazine is focusing on engaging young college students, Generation
Engage is focusing on youth who don't attend college. Adrian Talbott, Co-Founder
of Generation Engage says more than half of young people don't go to college
and are less likely to be engaged in the political process.
