August 18 - Saturday night, John McCain and Barack Obama appeared on the same stage for the first time of this campaign at the Saddleback Church in Orange County, California. The mega-church hosts an annual civil forum, and this year, the forum was on the presidency.

Pastor Rick Warren invited Obama and McCain and both accepted. The event was not a debate. Rather, Warren interviewed Obama for an hour, then McCain for an hour, covering topics like abortion, gay marriage, torture, and faith.

Interview: Rev. Graylan Hagler, of the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington DC

Too liberal and not conservative enough, these are just some of the words that the religious right has used to describe Barack Obama and John McCain, respectively. Both campaigns, however, have been pulling out all the stops to court conservative voters of faith. I recently spoke with the Rev. Graylan Hagler, minister of the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington DC. Hagler says that as they court religious conservatives, Obama and McCain are getting it wrong by not talking about the real issues.
