July 28 - With the very real possibility of a black man as President, many critics of affirmative action question its need. Election Unspun producer Karen Miller sat down with Shirley Wilcher, Executive Director of the American Association for Affirmative Action.

Wilcher argues that it is most definitely necessary.

Affirmative Action is not preferences, it is not quotas. In fact, quotas are illegal. Quotas are discriminatory... And we're not talking about hiring, or admitting people simply on the basis of race.

Affirmative Action supporters

Affirmative Action only gives that individual whose group is underrepresented in the workforce, in that particular labor group, an opportunity to be considered, and opportunity and a chance to compete.

 

Interview: Ward Connerly

Now will hear from one of the crusaders against affirmative action, Ward Connerly. Connerly is President of the American Civil Rights Coalition; he told Producer Karen Miller that Obama's ascension to the White House is another reason to get rid of the policy for government contracting, employment and education.
