Apr. 18, Interview - A new report released by an Internet research group, iCrossing, sheds some light on the Presidential campaigns use of Internet searches and advertisement. It says that not until a few weeks ago have the candidates made use of paid Internet searches. The candidate who has made use of this tactic the most, thus far, is John McCain.

McCain has outspent Barack Obama by two and a half times. Hillary Clinton has barely spent any money on this type of Internet advertising.

To get a better sense of what this means, we turn to Christopher Bowers, blogger with TalkLeft.com. search engine sponsored advertisement

"Whenever you use Google for example, you can type in say 'John McCain' and you'll see a paid advertisement on the right hand side, of the results, that will say 'John McCain for President' and it'll have a link to John McCain's website.

And so what that actually is, you can purchase an advertisement on Google, for any search on Google. So, when someone is searching for Barack Obama, you can buy an advertisement on Google for all searches on 'Barack Obama'. You can do the same thing for searches on 'John McCain is too old' or 'Barack Obama is too inexperienced' or whatever."

"John McCain is working as hard as he can to try to dominate search engines and use paid advertising to define both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama online.

".. and McCain, because he just doesn't have the same level of online support, has to spend a lot of money just to make up for the natural, built in advantage that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have among online discussion."
