Apr. 24, Interview - For presidential hopefuls, Senator Barak Obama, Hillary Clinton and John McCain Free Trade agreements have become a hot bottom issue not only in Congress but on the campaign trail. Election Unspun producer Karen Miller spoke with Lori Wallach Director of Public Citizens Global Trade Watch Division to find out why.

"Typically in all politics, people want to ask where the people they might want to vote for are on the issues that matter the most and given bad trade agreements like NAFTA and WTO are having such widespread devastating effects on our wage levels, on food safety, on losing 3 million manufacturing jobs, on increase poverty in our trade partners, developing countries. It's risen to an issue where this is damaging a lot of people's daily lives and they want to know where the politicians are and get some change."

"In a presidential campaign there's a lot of people speaking on behalf of the candidates and whether or not what they are saying actually represents what the candidate intends to do if he or she were elected to office is always an open question. But, it is the case that both Democratic presidential hopefuls have a fairly mixed past record of trade, and as they've gone across the country, talking to Americans, they realize that they are going to have to make some changes to the current trade policy..."
